A celebration including introductions of art work by six exhibit artists,
performances, live music, DJ, food and drink.
Made in Palestine on view at SomArts, San Francisco, April 7 through April 21,
2005. The exhibition showcases a collection of contemporary art made by 23
Palestinian artists and refugees, who live in the occupied territories and the
Diaspora. The works on display cover a wide range of media and present
individual reflections on the Palestinian contemporary experience and the
political situation in Palestine. The Station Museum, Houston, where the show
originated, described Made In Palestine as "the first exhibit of contemporary
Palestinian art ever displayed in the United States." For more information, go

During the two weeks that Made in Palestine is on display at SomArts, the

AL-AWDA's THIRD
ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION
The program for Al-Awda's Third Annual International Convention to be held at
The University of California in Los Angeles, April 15-17, 2005 is
shaping up to be an amazing three-day event from
speakers and workshops, youth
activities, spoken word performances, to music and dabke.
The convention is
a vital and unique opportunity to come together with other activists for
Palestinian refugee rights at a time when our voices are needed most!
Confirmed and invited speakers include a representative from Ein el-Hilweh
refugee camp in Lebanon, representatives from Addameer Prisoner Solidarity
Group in Ramallah, and numerous individuals with expertise and experiences in
the Palestinian struggle and Right to Return. Come learn, discuss, and share
your ideas. Workshops include Refugee Support, Campus Activism, Media, Women
in the Struggle, Developing Al-Awda Chapters, Divestment, and Building
Coalitions, among others.
The Saturday cultural night
special event includes keynote addresses as well as Palestinian folkloric
dance by the youth of Beir Zeit Society of Southern California, music by world
famous Palestinian maestro and violinist Dr. Nabil Azzam, a Palestinian
fashion show and readings of children's writings from refugee camps.
